Jim Ekstrom began raising hybrid striped bass in the mid-eighties. In 1997 he located farming operations in Danevang, Texas, and built Sliver Streak farm to 110 ponds and nearly 1,000 water acres. Consequently, Ekstrom spent two years developing a concept and business plan before obtaining financing to buy land and start his own aquaculture operation. It took another two years to build 500 acres of ponds. At peak harvest, Ekstrom delivers 40,000 pounds per week to Houston processors.
